Over the last several years I have noted the lower priced AMANA dryers either gas or electric but usually the electric type having a problem of starting the drum to turn with a load of heavy wet clothes. This usually shows up after the dryer has been in use for several years. A new motor is required which is fairly expensive and ends up with the dryer being scrapped. I always check the centrifugal switch to make sure it is not sticking and that the motor shaft bearings are not bound up . Even after eliminating those factors some motors will not start a load. Has anyone else noted this on the lower priced units and is it repairable or is a new motor the only alternative ? Also what is the reason for the lack of starting torque on this type of motor?. Is a better motor available as a replacement ?
