KENMORE 500 washer no spin.not clutch

i have a customers kenmore 500,typical drive with the motor coupler that goes bad,it has agitation,drain,fill but no spin,,put a new clutch in it and made no difference,i noticed old clutch had pretty good grip,seems to be the tranny since the drum spins freely,customer wont pay any more so im trying to see if its worth going any further,anybody come across this?

i forgot to mention that during spin  the agitator spins[moderate speed] but not the drum[inner tub]

  Sounds like a worn out drive block.

i checked what i thought was the drive block[oval shaped block of steel that goes in the middle of brake drum just above clutch?]and it looked good,,,,is that a expensive part?

  That's not the drive block, that's the brake cam. The drive block is what locks the inner tub to the basket drive. Remove the agitator. If washer has a fabric softener dispenser, also remove the clip and plastic washer from agitator shaft so you can see the top of the drive block. Check to see that the slots in the drive block are intact as well as the tabs on the basket drive. You should not normally be able to rotate the basket easily as the brakes are engaged. If the drive block is worn out, the basket will rotate easily by hand because it will slip on the basket drive.

that was it thanks!   luckly its a cheap part!only 1 other person mentioned this part,everybody else said it had to be the clutch
