Whirlpool Gold fridge ice water
« on: March 03, 2013, 04:14:52 PM »

Hi. I put a used whirlpool fridge GC5SHAXVS01 in my parents house and cant get the ice maker to work.  Water in the door works but no water to ice maker tray.  Took the hose loose from the water inlet valve and its dry as a bone.  Ive not worked on one before and dont know if all the parts are the ice cube box that holds the there supposed to be a lever of some kind?  Close the flap, raise the lid and look in the IM and at the back I see 2 goldish colored plastic ears with slotted holes..does something go there? There is a rectangular plastic opening coming from the back of the freezer pointing at the IM.  Red light blinks twice...blinks twice...close the flap and it goes solid the closed door switch and the light goes off.  I dont know if the water valve needs replaced or something that sends it its signal.  Thank you.  Bill

This unit uses OPTICS to know when to and not to harvest ice. It SOUNDS as if they are working. If after a few days and the tray has NO water in it, I would Ohm out the valve and possibly apply suitable power to actuate it. Could you post a picture of the goldish tabs with slots you are speaking of? :D
