Possibile control board that controls fans and defrost cycle.Looks like you have water droplets by fan motor and frost on the damper control that makes me think that fan is not working all the time.Is it possible door could be left ajar?

Not any more than it has for the last 8 years. It has never done this not even a little in the past. I am going to kick myself for this but where is the control board? If it is bad, I can assure you its not easy to get too. This thing hates me.

There is also a air return on the bottom of that drain pan to the right that maybe plug up with ice.Maybe take some of the lower bins out in fresh food and make sure that you get all the ice out of there and make sure its clear before putting it back together .

The control board, part # W10135090 is #18 on the diagram and is back by the compressor as dab said.

This may help if  the touch controls is about the same as far as putting it  in defrost. There should be a diagram somewhere there to tell you maybe its by the control panel in there and you have to pull it down to get to it.

I found your model # from one of your first post and you have no touch tone board and A.J has the correct control part number.Good luck.

Thanks guys. It is still defrosting. Will keep you posted. No chance it could be the defroster element being bad? Should I order that too?

Oh my, 175 dollars. Ok. Can this thing be accessed by the back of the fridge or do you have to lean it back? In the diagram it looks like it might be accessible from the back. Anyone replaced this before?

It finally defrosted and I put it back together for now. I will order the part. Do you think I should replace the heating element too? If it was your fridge, would you?

If the defrost heating element works I don't see any point in replacing the element.

I have worked on a lot of Whirlpool refrigerators, but have never worked on one with this type of board in it. From looking at the diagram I would say the board can be access from the back without having to lean it back.

What do you think dab?

The picture still looks like a plugged drain ? When you put water in the bottom of the evap, does it go down the ref drain ?

You have a duck bill on your drain in the back of the ref . This I would think is full of gunk. Take your rear panel off the back of the ref and reclean your inside drain and cut a corner off the duckbill ,after you clean it out .

The board is mounted in a box on the left side and has plastic stand offs like on the G E boards that holds there boards on. It's in the back of refrigerator. You just have to Neal down and take board out of box. This is a hard one to call as we no the drain is plug up. But that frost on the freezer control and water or frozen looking drops by fan makes me think its more than the drain. But saying that go with the cheapies way first. Try to see if cleaning drain again works.

Also anytime I see frost on food or on controls I would look for door that is not closing first. Both doors should shut at a 45 degree angle by themselves when let go.sometime kids do not shut the door right or some food product is in the way of one of the doors closing.Sometimes gasket need to be clean.Or front rollers need to be adjusted to get doors to shut at a 45 degree angle. All must be look at. And lay on floor and make sure gaskets are closing on bottom and sides.

Is there a way to test the heating element to make sure it works?

If your unit was not defrosting your evap  would be soild ice and yes you can test it but no reason to at this time clean your drain and check the duckbill

I checked this on the freezer side the first time it froze up and it was iced up. I did let it thaw but I did not know it went through to the friedge side. Now, this time I thawed it I left it unplugged with a space heater inside the door for about 5 hours. I will check on the fridge side too.

I will check that tomorrow. Thanks for the reply. Will I know this when I see it? I cannot seem to find it in the diagram.

It's attached to your drain that goes into your condenser pan.

Do I access it from the back or inside the freezer/fridge side? I apologize for all the questions but I look for the parts you mention on the diagram to see what I am looking for. I injured my back late last week and want to minimize the time I end up working on this due to pain.
