Freezer temp is fine, refrigerator gets too cold, does not hold set temp, things freeze slightly. I think the damper needs checking but would like to enter diag mode and need the manual.

Here is the service manual in our store.

http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?action=store;sa=view;id=79

Being you started a new topic in our forum and shared with us what's wrong with your refrigerator I will send you a free copy of the service manual via PM.

Have a look at the service manual and let us know how it turns out or let us know if you have any other questions.

Ge is a brand I'm not real familiar with so maybe another tech can post some additional advice for us about your refrigerator.

Thank you, I did happen to have a copy of this manual but I don't think it covers my exact model. To enter the diag mode you must display 5 in the freezer display and a 5 in the refrigerator display (page 33). My refrigerator display will not bump down to single digits, it goes from 34 to 44 then OFF. This model has the express cool, express thaw tray and turbo cool setting. Any advise? Thanks

Did you check your f/f thermistor?

Hello, No I have not physically checked anything, just been doing a lot of reading up on my problem. Everything points to a bad damper or like you suggest, the thermistor. There seems to be some built in diagnostics that would check these items without tearing the fridge apart first. I have searched the internet for days trying to obtain a manual or directions to enter the diagnostics mode and the test codes for this model, I have not had any luck. I'll search awhile longer then just order a new damper assembly and thermistor and install it. The unit is still useable in the meantime. Thank You

Unfortunately they don't make a service manual for every model of appliance and to top it off GE is probably one of the hardest brands to find service manuals for.

OK Thanks, I'm going to pop out both thermistors on the refrigerator side and check the resistance and see if they vary with the temp. If both are good, then I'll check the damper. I'ts a shame that there's no service manual for this model, although it is very close to the 2001 models covered in the manual AJ provided, (mine is newer).

Don't pop out the thermistors.  You can check the resistance at the control board.  Remove the light cover and shine a flashlight into the vent.  You'll probably see the damper door sitting loose in there.  Replace the damper assembly, WR49X10091.

Absolutely, I did check them from the mother board, and with each in a glass of ice water got 16K ohms. Out of the ice water the resistance fluctuated with the temperature, so i'm pretty sure the thermistors are good. Plan on replacing the damper module. thanks

AJ, I have seen this manual (31-9075 GE Arctica Side-By-Side CustomCool Refrigerator.pdf) listed on various sites including yours. Although it doesn't cover the 26" model which I have, do you think it is closer than the manual you provided me earlier in this thread? Thanks
PS I sent a pay pal donation for all the help

FYI
The new damper assembly has fixed the problem. The old damper was flopping around. The only thing is that after 2 days, my freezer is set to 0 degrees but stays at 3 degrees, my FF is set to 37 degrees but stays at 40 degrees. Not sure why it won't set exactly like it used too, but I can live with this.

This is an old thread but has been helpful to me--to answer this question about entering the diagnosis mode for the models with the three digit temp display, press "WARMER" until both freezer and fridge displays say "OFF" then hold down COLDER+WARMER on both sides 3 sec until they flash zeros...all other tests function as shown in the service manual from there.

Jam new to this site but your last post for entering diagnostics was on the mark and helped me check out my GE same model, with same issue...thermistors all passed, I did check resistance at main board yesterday but testing while installed was not my best effort, and when I checked damper during diagnostics I could hear door operating...assume it was opening and closing as visual did not seem easy. I reset unit and now waiting to see if temps remain stable at zero and 37 as is recommended, hopefully doing temp reset on main bd helped, would like to eek out. Bit longer before jumping to a new fridge..my wife has been searching and likes a side by side whirl pool.
If instability remains, I may replace damper, seems easy enough.
Glad I found this site.
