Whirlpool Washer Noise After Spin
« on: April 26, 2008, 11:25:19 PM »

Model Number: LSR7333PQ4 icon, this washer washed fine and would even spin the clothes, but at the end of each spin cycle would make a clanking noise (see video). I removed the agitator and found the drive block damaged. Whirlpool direct drive washers utilize a gearbox that drives the agitator and a clutch and basket drive assembly to spin the wash basket. The rotational drive to the basket is done via an aluminum drive block that is mounted to the end of the basket drive and slips over two metal tabs at the top of the shaft. The basket is then secured to the block via a spanner nut that compresses the basket center post to the block and the basket drive. If any of these components become damaged, the result is generally the basket spinning freely within the tub, or coming loose when the brake engages, as was the case here. I replaced the drive block, and the basket drive (both tabs were also damaged) and the unit now functions, and sounds great.
