microwave worth fixing?
« on: July 20, 2012, 09:11:31 AM »

I can enter a time into the microwave and when I hit the start button it runs, but it sounds different and no longer heats.

A model number would be helpful.  The only microwaves that I repair anymore are built-in models.  For a do-it-yourselfer it might be worth fixing even if it's only a countertop model.  Some parts like door switches or hv diode are very inexpensive.  Control boards and magnetrons may cost more the microwave is worth. I almost always use  generic parts on microwaves.  They're just as good and a lot less expensive.

Are the holes near the fan in the backside plugged up with lint and such?

Fyi. You can buy wpl and ge microwaves at lowes for 179.00 - 199.00. there easy to install and carry a one year warranty. If it's a control board or magnetron and it's got some age on it you might want to replace it.
