Title: Admiral Dryer ADE7005AYW Loud Noises
Post by: gretchengraves on January 25, 2012, 09:14:37 PM
I have a very noisy Admiral Dryer ADE7005AYW (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM0=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros.com%252Fpartsearch%252Fmodel.aspx%253Fmodel_id%253D5176934&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Fpartsearch%252Fmodel.aspx%253Fmodel_id%253D5176934). I tried replacing the drum rollers and the felt under the glides. I did not replace the glides because to me they looked good. The belt did not look warn, and although I do necessarily know what I am looking at the idle pulley did not look worn either. What am I missing or should i try?

Did you check to make sure the blower was OK?

Okay in what way? It seems to be rotating fine.

Make sure it stays stationary on the motor shaft. It doesn't free spin on the shaft.

This should say "I do NOT know exactly what I'm looking at"
I'm  not really sure what the difference between worn parts and good parts look like except for good old common sense. This is the first time I have taken a dryer apart and seen the insides.

Do you grease drum rollers? If so with what? I assume if you do it would be on the shaft.

drum rollers in dryer should never need grease or oil, they  would collect lint .blower wheel will be sloppy on the shaft or inner part rounded.

I had a blower wmith a hair line crack once.  By jingling it you could see it was a bit loose.  Between the crack and the lint build up behind it, it sounded awful.

I do think part of the problem is the idler pulley, but I also noticed a slight gap between the motor and the blower. Not sure what to do about this. I can't seem to figure out how to even separate the two to see if it takes a (gasket). Help? Any info would be appreciated.

Can you describe the noise? Is it a squeal, a rumble, a scraping sound?

Not a rumble. A loud squeal and a scrapping noise.

Squeals come from drum rollers, belt idler pulleys or motor bearings. You need to pull the drum out so you can inspect the parts.
You can turn the rollers and idler pulley by hand and feel the bad one. You may also see black dust around or under the bad bearing.
