Title: kenmore direct drive spin problem
Post by: Taprobag on October 16, 2011, 10:24:01 AM
i worked on this washer changed the clutch because of poor spin. after i replaced the clutch it spins but cloths are still damp and need to spin twice. any chance that the trans would be bad? if not what could it be?

Does it pump the water out fast enough?

If the drain hose is restricted and it takes forever to pump the water out it may not be spinning long enough at full speed.

the drain setup and hose is clear of any restrictions and the water flow is good on this machine

Guess it could be slipping in the trany or the only other place I would think of it slipping would be the drive block.

Is it making any funny noises when it spins or stops?

Does it seem like it spins up to full speed? Maybe something between the tubs dragging?

Is there an air gap where the drain hose enters the drain or is it a tight fit?

There is no clutch in the transmission. It's all gears, it can't slip.  There is a plastic part of neutral pack that has a leaf spring attached.  If that spring breaks off, you'll get an intermittent spin.
