Title: Whirlpool washer spins only after opening lid
Post by: Jim214 on August 14, 2011, 01:42:40 PM
My WP washer spins only after I open the lid.  Pump is working.  Just had the trans & clutch replaced recently.

Model LSQ9549LW0 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Fpartsearch%252Fmodel.aspx%253Fmodel_id%253D502666)

Please help.  Thanks...

Your timer is bad. The time has a built in pause before it goes into spin. This pause stops the motor and lets the transmission shift into the spin mode.

By lifting up the lid you are creating the pause manually by stopping the motor.

I see this problem all the time. I looked up the model number of your washer and the timer it uses is part # 3951702 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM0=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros.com%252FAppliance-Parts%252Fwhirlpool-timer-item-number-ap3020314.aspx%253Fpn_%253D3951702&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252FAppliance-Parts%252Fwhirlpool-timer-item-number-ap3020314.aspx%253Fpn_%253D3951702) Timer, AP3020314 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM0=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros.com%252FAppliance-Parts%252Fwhirlpool-timer-item-number-ap3020314.aspx%253Fpn_%253D3951702&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252FAppliance-Parts%252Fwhirlpool-timer-item-number-ap3020314.aspx%253Fpn_%253D3951702)

Thanks AJ.  Do you know if there are any instructions out there to R&R the timer?

Here is a good video that shows you how to replace the type of timer you have in your washer. The timer can not be repair so it will have to be replaced.

When you open the lid, or when you open and then close the lid?

I think AJ was thinking it started spinning after you open and then closed the lid again as was I when I first read your post.

If in fact the washer starts spinning when you open the lid, so it's spinning with the lid open then you have a bad lid switch.

No, it's when I open & close it.  It then starts to spin.

Ok, to install it do I have to remove the shell?  Is there any instructions out there?
Should I return the timer that I already installed?
Thanks

The type of lid switch you have can be access and replace by simply lifting up the control counsel like you did to replace the timer. The switch is located on top the cabinet so the cabinet does not have to be removed in this case.
