Title: Maytag Bravos Dryer blower belt issue
Post by: jesseshipe on June 07, 2011, 07:23:30 AM
The pulley on the blower unscrewed itself while running, of course the belt is off.

The pot metal pulley is ok, I got it back on, but I am not sure how far this should go onto the shaft.  There is no lock nut to keep this on, at least none that I can find on a parts list or laying inside the machine some place.

So, do I thread the nut all the way to the bottom?  If so, how do I keep the shaft from spinning while tightening this thing?  Should I use blue loctite on the pulley?

What is the correct belt placement?  I dont want it running backwards...

Final question...  Is there a service manual for this machine or just the three parts sheets with an exploded view?

Thanks

Jesse in Ashland, Pa.

I think I have a service manual for your dryer but it's a large file. Send me an email at ricksappliancerepair at hotmail and I'll send it to you if I can.

Rick, I sent you an email from my gmail account.  Please let me know if you got it or not.  Thanks so much.

I dont understand why a manufacturer would make it so difficult for people to find out the information that they need in order to repair their machines.  I have been struggling with this issue since Friday, local repair men seem to be indifferent and quite independent.  Everyone needs to make a buck or two for what they do, as for us, we need the dryer running to get our shirts shipped out the door.  This has been frustrating for me, to say the least.

This dryer is weird. Have yall got a belt routing for this one. It don't appear to be a Bravos like the manual posted by AJ. Their is no blower wheel only a metal pan called a fly wheel. So what drives the blower on this puppy? Take a look Wild dryer config (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM0=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros.com%252Fpartsearch%252Fframe_diagram.aspx%253Fdiagram_id%253D28607248%2526pkw_%253Dbasket%2526model_id%253D5519126%2526NewWindow%253D1&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Fpartsearch%252Fframe_diagram.aspx%253Fdiagram_id%253D28607248%2526pkw_%253Dbasket%2526model_id%253D5519126%2526NewWindow%253D1)
I wonder if the belt simply rubs against that pulley for the blower? I don't see what it is that drives that thang.

JW, my dryer has 2 belts.  A small one drives the blower.  Its behind the fly wheel.

The motor sits in a front to rear position on the right side floor, looking at it from the front.  The blower is left of that, its shaft runs straight up and down, so the belt needs to have a twist in it to operate.

The other belt drives the drum.

Wow a twisted belt config. I see now, must be NUMBER 29 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM0=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros.com%252Fpartsearch%252Fframe_diagram.aspx%253Fdiagram_id%253D28607248%2526pkw_%253Dbasket%2526model_id%253D5519126%2526NewWindow%253D1&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Fpartsearch%252Fframe_diagram.aspx%253Fdiagram_id%253D28607248%2526pkw_%253Dbasket%2526model_id%253D5519126%2526NewWindow%253D1) I wish you could post some photos of that puppy. Have you got it fixed yet?

Yeah, thats not the right manual. I've been looking for the new double belt manual for awhile. I've worked on a few with the Whirlpool name.

The belt only goes on one way.  If you try to put it on wrong it will interfere with a tab on the blower housing.  There is service bulletin for the loose pulley problem.  Coat the threads of the blower shaft with medium strength loctite.

There is no tension adjustment for the blower belt.  You need to remove the scews from the blower housing, install the belt, realign it all, and replace the screws.  In this case, there were 2 guys going this and they struggled to get everything lined up right.

As for loctite, we just tightened it all up.  I wish I had seen that posting first, I asked the service rep about it and he said it didnt need it.

I am not an appliance repair man, but I am the maintenance supervisor at a mens shirt factory.  I primarily work on all kinds of sewing machines, along with cutting, pressing, fusing, and what ever else comes my way.  (I know how to operate a PLUNGER too)

Thanks kindly for all that have helped me here.  I have printed out several books for instruction, parts, and even theory.  I like to know whats going on with things before I get into them.
