Can you hear the compressor running? Is the fan in the freezer running?

1. Check to see if you have power to the compressor with a volt meter.

2. If you have power to the compressor then check the start and run winding with a ohm meter to make sure the windings are not open or shorted to ground.

3. If you have power to the compressor and the windings ohm out ok then replace the start relay.

I tried to look up a start relay for your model but could not find any info on the model number you listed.

Are you sure that is the correct model number?

Still not a correct model number.

Have you done any of the things AJ said?

If your compressor is hot I would guess it's one of two things.

A bad compressor or a bad start relay.

Are you able to check the compressor winding with a ohm meter as AJ suggested?

If not then your best bet is to replace the start relay with a new one. The start relay mounts to the side of the compressor.

If your compressor is real hot then it could still be a bad relay keeping all windings powered up and causing internal overload shutdown. Seen it.

kellonnie I was under the impression from reading your old post that you were a appliance service technician.

Are you?

Then you should understand how to use a volt/ohm meter.

Check the compressor as I suggested with a meter. If the compressor checks ok then replace the start relay.

I looked up your model number and the start relay is part # 8201786 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM0=http%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros.com%252FAppliance-Parts%252Fwhirlpool-compressor-starting-device-kit-item-number-ap3885081.aspx%253Fpn_%253D8201786&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252FAppliance-Parts%252Fwhirlpool-compressor-starting-device-kit-item-number-ap3885081.aspx%253Fpn_%253D8201786).

Are you currently going to school someplace?

Refrigerators are not any hard to repair then any other appliance.
The most difficult part of repairing refrigerators would be sealed system work, but most of the time there is nothing wrong with the sealed system

Most of the time you will be replacing start relays, fans, defrost timers, control boards and cold controls or thermostats.

Easy money... ;)

i did the washer dryer training in michigan then we moved here to nc last year and havent found a school here that offers it. because when i first got inot it it wasnt for a job, odd i know but got tired of mine breaking down so i wanted to fix them myself, but when we moved here the job i transfered with was um not to desireable and i hated it so i started my biz here. so basically for the last 10 years i have been fixing mine and friends and families washers and dryers until last year when i opened my biz. looking to expand soon but of course finding a school here hasnt been easy....thank for the info though after this mishap i see its not as hard as i thought..

My sister-in-law was a Sears service technician--eventually became a regional service manager. Not an easy thing--becoming a "boss" of quite a number of guys in a what has been an all male profession for---seemingly forever.

I don't think you'll have any difficulty growing your business.
Take it one day at a time. No rush.
Keep providing the best possible service for your customer--anything that you can do to offer as a *value added service*--do it.
I cannot tell you how many times that my customers have expressed gratitude for simply taking a few minutes to TALK TO THEM!
Explain things. Write down critical information that's useful for the customer--stuff the salesperson never talked about. Stuff the delivery people never explained. Things that CSRs either never mentioned or are unaware of.
It's shocking how many service techs are NOT people-oriented in a job that definitely requires that skill!
Be enthusiastic--without over-doing it.
Be YOURSELF!

Eventually--you'll have a large customer base.
You'll look back and marvel at how much ground that you have covered--knowledge & experience never stops. And you'll also wonder where in the heck did all that time go?

Good luck/God bless!

the best is when the husbands actually want to do the job or pull things out for me i love it, then they will sit on the floor with me asking all kinds of questions, like what in the world made you want to do this? its great
