Title: RS2545SH samsung fridge side evaporator
Post by: woodchuck on February 06, 2010, 09:23:41 AM
I noticed the coil on the fridge side doesn't have a heater. How does it defrost. Is it like an air conditioner where it somehow cycles to let it melt. If it does ice do much it can't function properly is it because of low freon.

The heater is incorporated into the evap assy. you have to buy the whole thing if you want to change just the heater.  just so you know there is a bi-metal in the defrost loop but it doesn't work like most refrigerators.  The defrost cuts out when the board picks up the correct resistance from the thermistor.  The bi metal is a fail safe set at 140 degrees. The temp right before the cabinet melts.  I just had training on this fridge at the MSA convention in Vegas.  The instructor ran out of cd's though. My boss has one and i am going to get it from him.  I think there is detailed instructions on how to change the heater out without changing the thing. I have never done one yet.

That's great! I have always stayed away from samsung because of things like this. I appreciate the information.

you think this machine is bad. you should see their 4 door model--- 4 evaporators, 4 evap fans, 4 defrost circuits!!!!!  i guess the only thing good about them is they are cal-rod heaters, not glass like the old maytags or ge sxs that always break.  another good thing about the samsung is their diagnostics from the displays are fantastic, you can almost diagnose any problem from it.
