Older Maytag top load washer (sometimes) still has full tub of water at very end of cycle.  However, the pump works fine cause it pumps the water out the first half of every cycle

Check the drain hose behind the washer to make sure it's not kinked over.

Sometimes coins will get between the inner and outer tub and restrict or plug the outlet at the bottom of the tub.

Is the drain hose loose in the standpipe? ( taped & slow drain?) Is it off-balance? There are several problems that can result in the same symptom.

Check for a garment between the tubs.
