Being able to perform "basic maintenance" is something that we ALL should know how to do...an illustrated guide would be very helpful to me.

I think I have had it with just tearing things apart and "figuring it out" so I would love to have this book so I can at least have some idea of where to start.  I have also helped out a lot of families with their appliances so I would love to win this so I can continue that ministry.

I would like to win this book because since my husband and I are on a limited income we try to repair our appliance to save money with the economy being the way it is now. We have always worked well as a team (42 years) and although I can't do much anymore I give him support when he is fixing an old appliance and it makes him feel good when it works once he is done. We have an old washer and old fridge that we have kept working thanks to help from places and areas like this. We could certainly use this book.

My current service/repair book dates to the early 1970's. It was o.k. while I still had old appliance hand-me-downs, but now that I'm all grown up, I need guidance for this century.

All right, I have just fixed the old Kenmore washer and dryer, both are agitating and rolling beautifully by the way, thanks!
I installed the dishwasher, pulled the ceramic igniting element from the oven and replaced that...
I searched the net for solutions to these adventures and would love a book that has it all in one place like my Chilton's car manuals.
Something I can get my fingerprints all over besides my computer keyboard!
Thanks again!

I've used the Appliance Repair Forum to repair my washing machine (motor coupler) and gas dryer (valve solenoids).  While extremely helpful, this book could save a lot of time that I spent looking up YouTube videos of how to take the washing machine apart and days spent emailing back and forth to determine what the different problems were.  I'm sure I'm just beginning to have appliance repair "opportunities".

Fixing things is in my blood. Before I toss something I will have repaired it several times if possible before it goes in the trash. I have gotten many extra years of service from items I have repaired and usually for little or no cost to me except for time.

I love manuals, for they double not only as (a) helpful information but also (b) an instrument that can be used to hold the lid open while working on a unit ::).

I am a DIY kinda guy. PLUS, I have 4 boys (yes 4) that we homeschool and who love to learn from dad as he attempts new repairs (with an estimated 95% success rate). So if I win, it is like giving a single book to 5 DIY'ers. My oldest (almost 15) will be thrilled that our repair time will be cut in half (or more) since dad will have a better idea what he is doing.;D

We need this book because there is an applicance conspiracy in our home.  The refrigerator let the garbage disposal know who let the washing machine know who tipped off the wall oven who informed the gas range that they should begin making suspicious symptoms of quiting completely.  We don't know which will be the first to go but we know there is a chain reaction coming soon.  And we are afraid to say anything about it in front of them.    Lori Duncan

I think this has turned into the beggars forum.

I don't think so, people are just doing what I asked of them in the first post of this topic.

I never expected so many replies in such a short about amount of time, awesome!  O0

If I would have known we would have had so many replies in this amount of time I could have just run this giveaway for two or three days.

Maybe I will run our second DIY book giveaway for a shorter amount of time.

Yes, there will be another DIY book giveaway after this one.

It maybe the another copy of this same book or it may be a different appliance book. Maybe even a DIY plumbing or electrical book.

Thanks to everyone that has posted so far, lets hear from a few more.

I could really use this book because I live on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean called the Seychelles where I work for the State Department.  I brought all my own appliances from the states and they are all starting to break down.  So far I have had to fix my oven heating element, my dryer belt, and my washer motor coupler.  I can order spares but a whole new unit is problematic due to shipping, taxes, etc.  Also, the nearest repair man for my stuff is probably 3,000 miles away in South Africa.  At any rate, I am not what you call a handy man by any means so any help you could throw me would be sincerely appreciated.  P.S.  Love the forum - saved me big time out here so far.  T
