Title: Kitchenaid Compactor not stopping at top
Post by: gems25 on March 01, 2009, 10:10:02 PM
Have KAID KUCC151LSS0 compactor that will not stop when it reaches the top.  Have replaced:TLDS #777811, Centrifugal Switch #780164, momentary start switch, metered tilt switch, cycle switch, lock switch, safety switch, all pass continuity correctly.  Metered motro run winding @ 2.1ohm, mortor start winding @ 4.8ohm, verified wires from TLDS to Centrifugal switch are good.  What else?

Unit does not stop (tamping noise)

 Momentary start switch contacts fused
 Top limit switch “on”
-- Out of adjustment (wide blade spacing)
-- Contacts fused

Tech Sheet for this Model (https://www.servicematters.com/docs/wiring/Tech%20Sheet%20-%209871923.pdf)

Thank you for the quick response.  I have that tech sheet and have performed every test on the sheet.  The contacts inside both TLDS and motor switch had been arcing but not fused together.  Could this have caused damage to the motor?  Although the motor still works up and down.

Actually, it is the other way around. The motor is drawing excessive amperage, causing the arcing of the switches and probably the malfunction. You should replace the motor.
