Title: Amprobe will be sending us the ACD-14-PLUS meter for review
Post by: AJ on February 12, 2009, 05:00:16 PM
After we receive the meter from Amprobe I will start a new topic in the forum for the review.

I will then post a review of the meter along with some photos.

Then if any one else (AJ Team Members Only) would like to test the meter out themselves and post a review as a reply to the topic we started I would be happy to ship the meter to them.

If you would be interested in checking out this meter first hand post a reply here to let me know.

After I see how much interest there is in passing this meter around I will get some details worked out.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Pass around rules:

1. Pass around is only for AJ Team members with USA shipping address.

2. You pay to ship it to the next member on the list.

3. It must be shipping priority mail with delivery confirmation number or UPS.

4. You can only keep it for one week max.

5. You must post a few words in the review topic about what you thought of the meter.

I have 3 Fieldpiece meters now. I am always looking for something better no matter what. I would appreciate being included in the meter test program.
I will report my honest evaluation and return the meter when the test period is complete.
Thanks,
Steve

I apologize. I did the high res. image and saw what the meter does. My Fieldpiece meters do all that and much more.
There is no need for me to evaluate the meter.

I would guess we all have meters that will already do what this one does. After all how much can one multimeter do?

This will be the first meter I have ever used with dual displays and I will be looking forward to checking it out.

So what you will probably do is ship the said meter with a call tag enclosed so the recipient can return it by simply resealing the box, attaching said call tag and sliping the box into the nearest UPS pickup box with no expense to the user whatsoever, am I right?

That is a good question JW.

If we do it your way then I have to pay shipping not only everytime I ship it to someone, but also when it's shipped back to me.

I'm not willing to do that, sorry. :)

What I have seen done on other sites that pass products around like this is everyone pays shipping.

Just for example, I would pay to ship it to you and then you would pay to ship it to the next member.

This way everyone that try it helps pay the shipping cost and they only pay shipping one way.

Shipping should be done with a tracking/delivery confirmation number. Priority mail maybe the cheapest way to ship it, but if someone want to ship it using UPS that would be ok to.

I would guess priority mail shipping with delivery confirmation number would be around $5-7 in most case.

Each member that gets the meter could try it out for a week or two at the max before sending it on to the next member on the list.

What's everyone think of that?

Interesting looking meter.

I would have no problem paying to ship it to the next member on the list.

We should keep the trial time to one week. If you get the meter on Tuesday you ship it out the next Tuesday.

Even at a week it's going to take longer then a month for the first four members to try it out.

What happens to the meter after it's done being pass around, just wondering.

That would run a ton of money  for our Canuckalicious friends but hay I'm game. What if P45 wants to take a gander? I want to be the one to send that puppy over the pond. :D NOT! Sorry old friend me pockets er a tad shy.

A week sounds like a good time limit to me.

It's to early to say at this point in time.

I have seen other sites raffle off the products they pass around to raise funds for there site or to buy other products for pass arounds.

If not some type of raffle or giveaway then maybe ApplianceJunk.com could donate it to a local school.

I would be open to idea's about what should happen with the meter after the passaround.

Maybe we should just keep it as new AJ Team members may want to play with it later on.

Another good question.

This is why I ask you guy's so we can get all the bugs worked out. :)

Lets keep this first pass around to USA shipping address only.

Maybe as time goes on and we get more AJ Team members in say Canada we could ship something up to our Canadian friends for there own pass around.

As for now lets keep this first passaround of the Amprobe meter in the United Stats.

I had the original ACD-14 which was re-called due to false readings which resulted in people being shocked.
This was because it would read no voltage when in actuality there was.
I am waiting for the ACD-14 plus which is what they are replacing it with.
FYI Fluke now owns Amprobe.  :)
Sorry, I just can't stop being long winded.  :2funny:

2007, when they were still part of ATP/Robinair/TIF
Press release : The affected SKUs include: Item Number Item Description

2730641 ACD-10 PRO, DIGITAL CLAMP-ON MULTIMETER

2730652 ACD-10 TRMS-PRO, DIGITAL CLAMP-ON MULTIMETER, TRUE RMS

2730665 ACD-14, HVAC DIGITAL CLAMP-ON MULTIMETER

2730676 ACD-14 TRMS, HVAC DIGITAL CLAMP-ON MULTIMETER, TRMS

Description of the Problem

Both the ACD-10 and ACD-14 models “lock up” in certain circumstances failing to properly measure

hazardous voltage levels on electrical systems. When the clamp meter locks up it provides readings

under 1 volt or a millivolt reading. If the user does not follow industry standard practice by verifying the

tester before and after checking a circuit, he/she may believe there is no voltage present when in fact

there is.

THIS COULD PLACE THE USER IN A POTENTIALLY HAZARDOUS SITUATION.

Did you get your ACD-14 yet?

I'm still waiting for the one they are sending us to review.

I contacted them to let them know we have not received it yet.
They replied back saying sorry for the delay that it will be shipped in a couple weeks.

i've had an acd-14 for several years now so here is my review....

not sure if mine is a recalled one cause i can no longer read the tags, but cant say it has ever given false readings

battery life has been good, its taken some good drops and nothing was permanently damaged(ive had to remove and reset the lil springs for the buzzer after a couple of drops)

still on the original probes, the temp prob supplied didn't last long and i found the amprobe one to be pricey but have since found a very inexpensive replacement probe for a different meter that works with some modifications

the original case was pleather and the probes poked through it in no time

my only real complaint.... no light in the display!  its a pain in dark basements

The reason for recall was for false readings. Indicating a circuit was dead, when in fact it was still alive.
The reason I am still waiting is the acquisition by Fluke put a lot on the back burner. Should receive it soon.
Still have my "Fieldpiece,UEI,Fluke meters along with an original Robinair Volt/Watt/Amp (circa 1968) meter that even their sales rep did not know they had ever sold.

Not yet and I no longer expect one.

I sent a email reply back to them two weeks after they emailed us saying they would send one out.

It was a short email just to let them know that we had not received the meter yet.

They replied back saying sorry for the delay and that it would be shipped soon.

Weeks and then months went by. After two months I sent another email reply saying that it had been two months and I just wanted to touch base with them to let them know we had not received the meter.

That last email reply I sent a week or two ago and I have not heard anything back from them.

Here is a old topic I come across tonight well searching for a few topics to move into our new board.

Maybe someone at Amprobe will read this topic someday and make good on a old promise.
