Title: Amana dryer drum repair or replacement
Post by: Thorning on March 21, 2019, 02:16:37 PM
I have an Amana electric dryer with model number LE8517L2 that has a steel drum that has a split at the seam on one end. According to all the places I have checked for a replacement there is none available. The material is very thin. I have tried to weld it  using my MIG welder but not sure if it will hold. Does anyone know of a source for a replacement part ?HELP.

I was able to repair the drum using my MIG welder and  after being reassembled it runs smooth and quiet. The material in this drum is very thin and a person must be very careful when welding. I also used a small piece of sheet metal as a patch . I also used  some JB epoxy and after it dried it was smoothed out with a file. The opposite end of the drum seam is also starting to crack but it is not likely to split for quite a long time.
