Title: LG Portable AC Not Cooling
Post by: wpollock on March 30, 2018, 03:44:04 PM
This is a free standing in room ac and it worked fairly well in supplementing the central ac in my master bedroom last year. However, now the compressor appears to kick in and out at 15 second intervals with no cold air.Any ideas as to why the compressor is cycling on/off so quickly?

Thanks

A model number may be helpful herre but I doubt that I will be able to find any tech data on it.

Sounds like the compressor is overheating and tripping the thermal protect.

Sometimes it is a bad compressor, sometimes a bad start relay or ptc and sometimes a bad start capacitor if it uses one.

As I thought I was unable to find any tech data/wiring info on this unit.

Parts listings are available but I could not find a compressor start device there.
I did see a capacitor on one of the lists but it did not say what it was for.

If your AC is turning on and off frequently, you're experiencing something called short cycling, one of the most common air conditioning problems among homeowners.

It can also be the most costly. That is, if it's not caught and fixed in time.

the most common causes:

Thermostat location
Dirty air filter
Leaking Refrigerant
Oversized AC

Considering short cycling involves your compressor (the mechanical heart of your entire system). I highly recommend contacting a trusted professional who can clearly diagnose and solve the problem before bigger and more expensive issues occur.
