Title: GE top load gtwn4250m1ws - loud braking

On these GE top load washers is the brake part of the drive shaft assembly? Major squeaking going on when the tub is coming to a stop.

They use an electronic brake built into the motor. Normal sound is similar to a chop saw stopping.

So if it's squealing during the braking should the motor be replaced?

Not necessarily. The seal on these machines have a band made from a spring that slips off and when that happens they will squeal when spinning or stopping.
