Title: Amana washer. Suspect leaking tub seal
Post by: 2cheap2buynew on July 19, 2014, 09:45:05 PM
I have an amana washing machine that leaks water. I can see the switching valve and it's dry as well as the fill hose.  I haven't dug very deep into this thing yet but from what I can tell it's common that the tub seals go. My lower spin bearing is a bit noisy too. Anyone know where I can get just a tub seal and bearing? I have found several complete seal and bearing kits for $115 or more. Looking to save a little jingle if possible.
Thanks in advance for any help

I would buy the kit and the lower bearing. Or better yet, take that money and buy a used whirlpool direct drive washer.

Is the whirlpool direct drive that much better?

A lot easier to work on and parts are readily available. I used to sell and service those Amana washers but never really liked them.

It's been a very good washer. Figured if I could fix it for cheap I'd keep it. But with the rebuild kit and tools required it's on a cost me nearly $200 to repair. Guess I'll start looking around. Thank you for your input!
