Title: DeWalt 12vMax DCF610S2 Screwdriver
Post by: AJ on January 19, 2014, 05:13:03 PM
Got a new cordless screwdriver the other day. Having had ordered it online I was a bit surprised at just how small it was once I got it in my hand.

DeWalt 12vMax DCF610S2 Screwdriver on Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0043XX872/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0043XX872&linkCode=as2&tag=applcomhowtov-20)

I had been using a smaller Makita cordless drill for years and just chucking in the bit adaptor when I used it as a screwdriver.

This is my first cordless driver with a dedicated 1/4" screwdriver hex type chuck already on it. Sure love the feel of it in my hand, can't wait to start putting it to use.

Any other DeWalt fans out there?

What kind of cordless screwdriver are you currently using and how do you like it?

AJ I have that same one and it is the best out of all the others i've used. Love the three lights. Think about getting the flashlight that uses the same battery. It is compact, bright and has a swivel head, magnet and a stand.

How long have you had yours?

About 18 months. The Bosch that I had before didn't like being left in the cold and wouldn't work unless it was warmed up. I figured it had something to do with the Lithium batteries, but haven't had that problem with the Dewalt.

I got the 8v dewalt gyro screwdriver and really like it, it has replaced my drill and ratcheting screwdrivers.

I have the same one! (What's that old saying about great minds...) I tried a few others, read a bunch of reviews and decided on this one. I love it! I live in Upstate New York and was also wondering how this would perform with the cold weather we have. I leave my tools in the truck overnight. This past Wednesday the temperature was -15 degrees when I left the house. The Dewalt worked fine right out of the bag. I use a Klein multimeter in my carry bag and the display would not even light up until it warmed up.

I'm going to get an extra battery and leave it in the truck. These lithiums don't give you much notice when the charge is gone. I read that they can hold their charge for a year. As long as I charge them on the weekend I'm usually good for the week, but sometimes I use the flashlight a lot like yesterday when I was in an old dark basement working on a dryer. They had one 40 watt bulb in the ceiling. You've heard of a 3 dog night? That was a 2 flashlight job!

Not cheap, but the DEWALT DCB119 12-Volt MAX and 20-Volt MAX Li-Ion Vehicle Battery Charger (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0052MINWS/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=390957&creativeASIN=B0052MINWS&linkCode=as2&tag=applcomhowtov-20&linkId=XT63MGDO2GHUARNK) would let you charge them back up from your service vehicle.

I bought another flashlight because I was afraid they would discontinue them someday. I also got 2 batteries. The new ones have an XR on the label. Now I can go two weeks without recharging.

What's new about the batteries with the XR on them?

How's your Dewalt holding up? The chuck broke on mine in six weeks of use. It's going back to Home Depot.

I'm getting another one. Dewalt says 90 days full refund warranty. I was removing a motor from a Haier combo washer dryer. When I backed the screw out, the back sheet metal caught under the collet and popped it off. I found all the parts and put it back together but now the bits won't lock in place. I checked the parts diagram and all the parts are there. I thought the check ball was gone but it's still there. It's under warranty, I'll just get a new one.

I use this same one and I love it. The adjustable chuck is key so I don't break plastic and it's strong enough to drill into a stud.

Loved my ps41, unfortunately due to a lack of swimming abilities it died on me :(.  Got the ps 42 which leaves the light on for 30 seconds after your done pulling the trigger and I love it.  also have the I driver for weird spots and things that don't need impacted..   try to find batteries on Craigslist..  I've got about 8 now mostly from people selling the regular driver with the included batteries for around 50$ a set..   which beats the daylights out of 50$ a battery new... (and also now I've got 2 regular drivers ps21s? I think as extra spares.). :)

I have the same one also , great tool , remember to put the forward / reverse switch in the center before putting it in the tool bag so it wont get accidentally pushed by another tool and drain the battery

Mine is 3 years old and I have 3 battery packs and it's hard to drain a battery pack, they last.I also have the "wobble" drive and it's great for those hard to get at angles.
