Title: Transmission replacement
Post by: Rvdave on December 05, 2013, 10:08:30 AM
I have a maytag A612 series 04 that the transmission is locked up in agitate mode.  I found a replacement orbital W10172457 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Fwhirlpool-transmison-w10172457-ap4319068.html) that normally comes with an agitator also, but this kit is missing the agitator. It is new but missing the agitator and seal kit.  Does this new transmission style for this model require the new agitator or can I use the old one?

You need the agitator that is made for the orbital. The newer transmission has a shorter faster stroke. If you use the old agitator you may burn the drive belt because it is going to grab the clothes and try to move them back and at much faster pace. This will create a tremendous load on the drive train.
