Title: service manual for the new Whirlpool washer with belt drive model WTW4800XQ4
Post by: go400 on April 19, 2013, 08:10:45 AM
Apparently, Whirlpool no longer sells a direct drive washer, but has a new one with a dc motor drive.
I have no idea how to service this. model WTW4800XQ4

Thanks AJ, seems routine to service, but time will tell.

It's not a dc motor, it's an ac permanent split capacitor type motor. It has two windings, in one direction, one winding is used for the run winding and the other a start/run winding, in the other direction their roles are reversed. Both windings in circuit all the time. Switching is done via triac's on the control board. In agitate mode, the motor direction is repeatedly changing direction. These washers are a piece of junk IMO. Many many failures for a washer design that is only 3 years old. You referenced the XQ4 model. The "4" is the revision level. The washer has already gone through 4 revisions in 3 years!

My 3 most common replacements on this machine:
1) Cam
2) Mainboard
3) Actuator

Only one motor and one tub seal....
