Title: LG dryer won't stop running
Post by: boardslide on June 07, 2012, 04:11:23 AM
Hello all, I've been searching and searching but have not been able to find anyone posting with this issue.  My LG DLE2516W works, but won't stop spinning after it's done.  The only way to make it stop is to open the door and/or unplug it.  The display will count all the way down and then turn off and the heat will stop, but the drum will continue to spin.  The moment I close the door it will start to spin again, and if I push the power button the display will turn on and I can select a program.  If I press the start button it will begin to heat and work like normal until it's done and the display turns off yet the drum is still spinning.
 ???

I cleaned out the lint and the moisture sensors.  Running the diagnostics the moisture sensors will count up to 255 and the temperature will go up if I let the heater test run.

Any ideas?  TIA...

Most likely cause is the motor relay is stuck on the main control board.

Id have to agree with scrapiron. It's a main pcb fault in the relay: either stuck points or shorted relay circuitry holding the relay closed.

Thanks guys.  Manual didnt show much in the way of motor relays or switches so I'll start here.  PCB on the way.   O0

Just an update for future searches, it was indeed the main PCB.   O0. Very easy to replace.

Thanks!!!

I've had this same problem. I'm not a technician, but savvy with general handyman type jobs. Is this a part I could order and replace myself? Thanks for the help!

What is the model number of your dryer?

Here is the parts list for your dryer.

LG Dryer Model DLE2050W Parts (http://www.repairclinic.com/LG-Dryer-Model-DLE2050W-ID-865040-Parts)

Your model dryer uses main control board part # EBR36858801 (http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Main-Control-Board/EBR36858801/1369218?modelNumber=DLE2050W)

Great, thanks so much for the help!

Is this something I can reasonable do myself? Any tips for getting to the control board? Anything else I should try before buying this part? I already cleaned the lint trap and sensors as people on other forums suggested and that didn't fix the problem.

This is for a gas dryer, but disassembly is IDENTICAL. You only need to watch up to 1 minute and 30 seconds or so. The main PCB is mounted to the display PCB on the rear of the control panel... O0 O0 O0 O0

Hey everyone,  I just got a call on a 14 month old Kenmore electric dryer (made by LG) with the same exact problem.  The motor won't shut off but you can run the cycle by powering up the board, selecting a cycle and pressing start but it won't shut off without opening the door or unplugging it.  I guess I will order and replace the board.  Thanks!!!

Thanks for the information.  My 3 month old LG DLEX2650W Electric Dryer just began doing this.  I'm glad it is under warranty, the part is almost $200 dollars.  Hope they fix it well and it does not recur.

Makes you wonder when you find so many other people have experienced the same issue!

I have a LG DXLE2650W dryer.  It is roughly 1.5 years old.

During the first year I had a different issue where the 'pcb assy' PART NUMBER: EBR71385602 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Flg-pcb-assembly-display-ebr71385602-ap5601294.html) was replaced.

Now I am experiencing the exact same issue as the original posting.
According to the solution, it seems like I need to purchase a 'pcb main assembly' PART NUMBER: EBR36858815 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Flg-pcb-assembly-main-ebr36858815-ap5072679.html).

Can someone explain the difference between the two parts?
I want to ensure I replace the correct part (and know the difference between the two).

Thanks

I am having the same issue with this model LG (DLEx2650W) 14 months old.  Have you been able to repair?  I'd like to resolve quickly either doing it myself or hiring a repair tech.

I'm having this issue with my 1.5 year old LG dryer.  :embarassed:

Anyone know what part I need for model DLG4871W?

And if/where I can find a video to help with the repair?

This thread has a video on how to open up the dryer:
http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?topic=15347.10

I have the "steam drawer" so my process was actually much easier, the PCB board was hanging on the right side (when facing the front).  There was no need to remove the front panel.

I cannot opine on the part number for your dryer but the item I ordered, note above, worked for my model.

FYI the install was very easy. The hardest part was removing the old board from the front panel that was held on by some clips. Nothing a butter knife couldn't handle.

Hello...
We have this issue as well on our LG DRYER model number DLGX3471W.
Would this also be the main pcb board?

My quick research comes up with an OEM part number of #EBR74329401 (http://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Flg-pcb-assembly-display-ebr74329401-ap5671402.html).
Is this what I would need to replace and any advice on doing the repair myself?

Thanks so much!
Brett

Good info on this topic.  I just had the same problem with our DLEX2655.  Hearing it could be a relay, I unplugged the dryer, removed the three screws holding the top on, slide it off and lifted out the control board.  Not knowing which part was the relay, I tapped each part on the board with a screwdriver handle and plugged the dryer back in.  Problem solved at least for now.  Maybe a new board in our future though.

I'm having the same problem. My dryer is only 2yrs old and the LG support people were not useful. I'm not an electrician or handyman, just a female who needs to do laundry. Any suggestions?

I am having a similar issue with my LG model DLG4802W.  The dryer just spins, no heat.  No display, unless I play around with it (and it will only show a display for a brief period and will not let me choose certain functions, such as time or heat setting)  Also, when you do see a display, it shows heating and cooling together (but no heat)  I tried the smart diagnosis app, but it can't detect a problem.

Having this issue now. Where is the access to replace the PCB? Front/back? Our units are stacked on the walk so need to know how annoying this part will be to change

I might have found a simple, free fix for this problem:

I have a 2 year old LG DLEX8000W that suffered from the same problem of drum turning whenever the door was shut. It's stacked with about 10 inches of clearance to the ceiling, so I really didn't want to attempt a disassemble. I had tried cutting the power to it at the breaker without success. I had been putting up with the problem by leaving the door open between runs, but sometimes it ran run for hours when I didn't hear the beep after the end of a cycle. I estimate I did about 15 loads with the malfunctioning dryer over the course of 1.5 weeks.

Recently I wanted to dry a load of dress shirts for which I had created a custom cycle of the lowest heat for 20 minutes followed by the "wrinkle care" setting, which turns the drum on every couple of minutes to agitate clothing to prevent wrinkles for forming before emptying. I'm skeptical that this setting does much for wrinkles, but I think it solved my problem because after my custom cycle, I was surprised that the dryer stopped like it should. I've now done about 5 loads, and it appears to be back to normal. I'm not an electrical engineer, so I could only guess why this worked for me. Perhaps the "wrinkle care" setting drives the relay a little differently. Or perhaps it isn't the wrinkle care setting but rather something related to my custom program or just a random coincidence.

I'd like to hear if this fixes the problem for anyone else. Was it a fluke for me or is this an actual fix?

I have a DLE2140W with the same symptoms... dryer tumbles the enter time its powered on except when door is open, even when turned off.  I can't seem to locate the PCB for this, initial search says LG is no longer making it.  Ideas?

Just found this site after a quick google search this AM when I found my dryer running.  You guys are awesome!

Same problem as everyone else, dryer drum is running without heat while it is off.  Only way to stop drum is open door or unplug.  Can turn on and run "normally" (heat comes on, timer counts down etc).

Model LG DLE5955W - Sounds like I need a new Main PCB Assembly, which I think is ebr36858801 (https://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=omv7WULuxaw&subid=0&offerid=225193.1&type=10&tmpid=2111&RD_PARM1=http&RD_PARM2=%253A%252F%252Fwww.appliancepartspros&RD_PARM3=.com%252Flg-pcb-assembly-main-ebr36858801-ap4451021.html)

Can anyone confirm this makes sense/advise what I need instead?

I have exact problem described above with an LGDLEX8000W. The dryer wouldn't stop running.  The first time it happened we did a hard reset of the control board and it fixed the problem for a week.  Then it happened again and there was no fix.   LG support indicated it was control board.  I asked them for the specific number and after sometime the guy came back with EBR74879901 which appears to be the PCB Assembly Display.  However, several other sites indicate I should replace the EBR7362905, PCB Assembly Main.  The display seems perfectly fine, so I am leaning toward going with the "main PCB"  Any advice would be really appreciated.

Same problem here.  Model is LG DLEX2801W.  I have taken off the top.  I see all of the wires behind the display so I assume this is the PCB assembly.display.  And from what I'm reading I need the PCB assembly.main.  WHERE IS THE MAIN ASSEMBLY?  I can't find any info on how to locate this part.  I've seen pictures of it, but I can't order or replace it without knowing where it is!  It's not the same as the board behind the controls, right?  Help!

I'm so frustrated, but glad I have found other people with the same issue as me.  My dryer model is LG DLE4870W.  It dries fine, but will only shut off if I open the door.  If I shut the door, it starts running again.  UGH!! I called LG and was told it was something to do with the assembly? I'm supposed to call an LG technician tomorrow to set up an appointment to come fix it, but didn't know if there was an easier way, and less expensive, way to fix this issue on our own??

Same problem as everyone on a two-year-old DLGX3571W.  I think the part number to replace is AP5970735.  Can someone confirm please?

I have the same problem with an LG DLE2101W. It still drys ok but I have to leave the door open or it will keep running.
Looks like I need the main board, EBR33640905 which is no longer available.
Guess I'll just have to leave the door open until the dryer croaks altogether and then get a new dryer :(
